When we think of successful people, one thing all of them have in common is, good communication skills. Nurses are front line health work force. They are the one who are in constant touch with patients. Therefore, it is imperative that they develop excellent communication skills to practice as a global nurse. Here are some tips to improve your
communication skills.


a) Reading:
There is no substitute for reading. Read as an many genre as possible. Reading will not only provide you with knowledge but also improve your overall communication skills- writing and speaking.


b) Patience and Persistence
Communication skills will not improve overnight. You have to be patient and persistent. The process is life long and needs deliberate practice every day. Make it a habit of reading 10 pages of a book every day, along with listening news and debates.


c) Try to speak slowly
Speaking slowly will allow you the time to think and use the right choice of words. It also improves your diction and pronunciation.


d) Learn words by forming sentences
Just don’t memorize new word. Use them in two or three sentences, else the words will fade away from memory fast.


e) Listen
Listening is an important skill that is generally side lined. Listen intently to the conversation that is taking place around you for new words and expressions of speech. Listening to a native speaker itself will give you cues on pronunciation and word meanings. Ask questions, whenever an opportunity presents.


f) Write a blog
Create your blog page and contribute to it regularly. This will improve your writing skills.
